As on homage to Don Francisco Javier Sauza’s original recipe, crafted in honor of three generations of family distilling, the Tres Generaciones 50th Anniversary Añejo Tequila uses añejo Tequilas aged for 14 months in specially-selected American oak barrels that are treated and charred by the distillery’s in-house cooperage.

Inspired by Don Francisco’s original 1973 decanter that put luxury Tequila on the world stage for the first time, every aspect of this Tequila has a nostalgic meaning in both its production and its presentation. The higher-than-normal 45% ABV is also a nice touch.

Unlike some of the standard Tres Generaciones expressions that have rather mediocre reviews over the last few years, these new releases have had the internet buzzing. Even Drinkhacker have this one an A- score, calling it: “Warming with an enduring, spicy finish, the conclusion offers echoes of roasted agave, barrel char, and a touch of chocolate. It’s quite a journey from start to finish — bracing the entire way thanks to the higher proof. The striking, green ceramic bottle — inspired by the Dons’ original 1973 decanter — is alone worth the price of admission.”
