Amy - Wine Specialist, North Glendale
On my most recent trip to Napa Valley, I realized while driving up Saint Helena Highway that I unconsciously looked for Trefethen Family Vineyards as soon as I reached the Oak Knoll District. It's one of those winery staples that reassures me that I am indeed in Napa Valley. The winery was originally built in 1886 and then purchased by the Trefethen family in 1968.
So aside from being my physical landmark, it's also a historical one.
Their Chardonnay was their first international success, and I can see why! From the very beginning, the family practiced sustainable farming and they continue to do so today. Estate grown and bottled, the 2023 growing season was very kind to the area. This has only the slightest touch of oak, a curvy texture, and a bright acid finish. I thoroughly enjoy this wine with shellfish, poke bowls, and a cheese board featuring goat cheese, green apples and green pears.
Tasting Notes from the Winery
"Fresh aromas of green apple and stone fruit are layered with hints of gardenia. On the palate, zesty citrus flavors and notes of ginger lead to a classic light and bright finish."
