Even as the weather cools down, I still find myself gravitating towards lighter, easier drinking red wines, we are in SoCal after all. One of my new finds is Joey Tensley’s Lite Syrah from Santa Barbara. Organically grown grapes from a chalky hillside vineyard, natural yeast, unfined and unfiltered. This wine was produced as a lighter take on the big bulky Syrah’s typically found in this region. Expect the traditional flavors of a Syrah – blackberry, plum, cracked black pepper- but on a much lighter (medium) body, with gorgeous acidity and supple tannins rounding out the finish. In fact, this wine could even be classified as a hefty “chillable” red. Pairs well with an herbaceous pesto pasta or a sweet glazed pork chop; pairs best with good company.
