Distilled from a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley. Big, bold, and unapologetically intense! The malted barley really shines through upfront, starting the flavor journey off sweet and creamy with flavor notes of caramel, cereal and what can only be described as malt. The rye kicks off the finish with tons of cinnamon spice, big black pepper, combined with smoky flavor notes courtesy of the malted barley. Being cask strength only adds to the beautiful intensity of the finish.

I was pleasantly surprised by this Rye. I took one star off due to no age statement and price. This has the rye spiciness I enjoy without the unpleasant overly minty flavor. I hesitated to get this because I also have the SW Uncut Bourbon, which I found disappointing. I can recommend this Rye if you like something unique (49% Malted barley) in rye whiskies.
Put this in a blind against Old Forester 1924. The King of Kentucky lost by a significant margin.. The KOK was mediocre at best. Ethanol with a little flavor.
Mission has great ‘exclusive’ selections and this Cazcanes is truly on point.
