With limited edition Bourbons being priced like art and often sold like art, it makes sense that Kentucky distilleries would commission serious artists to create beautiful bottles that can be displayed as art.
Back in 2021, Rabbit Hole’s founder Kaveh Zamanian collaborated with the renowned watercolor artist Kasiq Jungwoo Lee to create a limited series of single barrel Bourbons, each label adorned with a unique Alice In Wonderland-inspired image linked to the distillery’s name and philosophy.
While Rabbit Hole was still a young distillery, their whiskies were well over four years old at that point and receiving rave reviews. The curiosity from Bourbon enthusiasts to taste these single barrel, full-proof selections, coupled with the collectability of the bottles themselves drove serious traffic to the distillery and the bottles immediately sold out upon release.
Now Rabbit Hole has revamped the idea for wider distribution and released their first single barrel offerings outside the distillery, once again teaming up to create labels for the series. Select cask strength barrels were made available to a limited number of retailers across the country and each barrel was bottled with six new Alice-inspired labels, including: Alice, the Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the Hatter, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, and the March Hare.
Mission’s exclusive cask strength single barrel from Rabbit Hole clocks in at 108.8 proof and brings all the fruit, sweet spices, and floral notes that have become synonymous with the house style. There is nothing even remotely herbaceous or bitter about this Bourbon. If the flavor profile was a spectrum, this one would be all the way to the sweet side. Red berries, cloves, vanilla, sweet oak, creme brulée and gobs of butterscotch are what characterize this whiskey. It’s utterly delicious and it keeps you coming back again and again after every sip.
