  • WHY: In 2014, to celebrate its heritage as one of Kentucky's premier Bourbon producers, Brown Forman announced the Old Forester Whiskey Row series featuring a line of expressions that would showcase the evolution of the brand from its origins. The 1920 Prohibition Style seeks to recreate what Old Forester’s barrel proof whiskey might have tasted like during that era, and it’s the most exciting of all four editions in the series.
  • HOW: Because whiskey had to be bottled at 100 proof during Prohibition, many distillers also filled their barrels at 100 proof. The 1920 Prohibition Style is bottled at 115 because Old Forester believes that evaporation would have put a mature cask of whiskey right around 57.5% ABV after a few years in the rickhouse. Flavors of cocoa and charred oak dominate the palate with loads of wood spice bringing up the back end.
  • WHAT: The Old Forester brand dates back to 1870 when the Brown brothers named the label after a local doctor who prescribed the whiskey to his patients. Old Forester was the first Bourbon to be sold only in bottles, rather than barrels, giving customers the confidence that nothing had been added to the whiskey in transit.
