- WHY: In 2014, to celebrate its heritage as one of Kentucky's premier Bourbon producers, Brown Forman announced the Old Forester Whiskey Row series featuring a line of expressions that would showcase the evolution of the brand from its origins. The 1870 Original Batch celebrates the year that Old Forester became a small batch Bourbon from three different distilleries, rather than the result of a single barrel, in order to recreate consistency of flavor between batches.
- HOW: To recreate that process, Old Forester took barrels from three different warehouses, each with a different maturity, date of distillation, and entry proof, mimicking three different styles of Bourbon. They were then married into a harmonious profile of baking spices, charred oak, and soft fruit.
- WHAT: The Old Forester brand dates back to 1870 when the Brown brothers named the label after a local doctor who prescribed the whiskey to his patients. Old Forester was the first Bourbon to be sold only in bottles, rather than barrels, giving customers the confidence that nothing had been added to the whiskey in transit. The 1870 Original Batch is bottled at 45% ABV.
