I was very excited to try this, as the Coffey Grain is one of my all time favorites, and every Nikka expression I've tried to date, has been outstanding. This one is totally different than any other Nikka I've tasted. While the Coffey Grain has a distinct bourbon hint to it, and Days is ultra citrusy, and From the Barrel gives you a spicy kick to the teeth that you won't soon forget, the Miyagikyo has a strong plum finish that is completely different than any of those. While the sherry finish is there, and there is no peat at all to this expression, the plums are what stand out on my pallet when I think of this bottle. It gives a body to initial taste that is just lovely, and especially enticing if you enjoy the sweeter expressions of Scotch & Whiskey. Nikka, once again, shows why Japanese whiskies are so prized, as the flavor is spectacular all the way from nose to finish, as there isn't a single missed detail. Nothing out of place, and clean to the last drop. As Japanese whisky has become highly priced, this bottle is still worth the price tag given, even if it is a non-age statement release. The Nikka distillers know how to make quality liquid, and it shows here.
