Unlike Bourbon or Rye, which, by definition, must be aged in new oak barrels, Michter's US*1 Unblended American Whiskey is aged in a way that utilizes whiskey-soaked barrels to achieve a rich and unique flavor profile. In late 2013, then Master Distiller Willie Pratt agreed to re-release  the US*1 Unblended American Whiskey after a nearly three-year absence from the market, deeming it "just right" and "the best it's ever been." Crucially, the US*1 Unblended American Whiskey never contains grain neutral spirits - hence its "unblended" distinction.

Deliciously Complex for the Price and Proof

I was hesitant to try Michter's American Whiskey upon entering my bourbon journey. All I can say is, I waited too long to try this. On the pallete you get chocolate that reminds you of semi-sweet chocolate chips, the expensive ones. There is some char, expresso, and sweet. The finish is medium to long. You can sit with this in your glass sippin' on it for a long time. If you're not careful you just might finish it in one setting. It's that good. BUY!
