Those already aware of Arnold’s nickname - “the Austrian Oak” - will immediately understand the concept behind MacSchwarzenegger. Using custom-crafted Austrian oak barrels from the prestigious Mittelberger cooperage, Alexander Murray & Co sourced a Speyside single malt whisky (right at 10 years of age) and finished it inside of Arnold’s personalized casks, adding an entirely new twist to the classic Scottish profile. After four months in new Austrian oak, the Speyside malt took on an entirely new character with notes of marzipan, cedar, and candied nuts.
Bottled at 47% ABV, the result is a unique single malt whisky that pays homage to the Austrian oak—both literally and figuratively! Round and supple on the palate, the creaminess of the whisky is what first grabs the attention. The Austrian oak influence hits immediately after, painting the palate with exotic wood notes that are seamlessly integrated into the inherent maltiness of the whisky.
The base flavor of sweet vanilla imparted from the original casks serves as a canvas for the Austrian oak to manipulate, as it shapes the standard Scotch profile into a more chiseled and assertive finish of oak tannins covered in confectioners sugar.
