  • HOW: Lagavulin's maturation in European oak is the key to its flavor profile. Rather than simply age its whiskies in used Sherry butts, Lagavulin's cooperage team strips out the Sherry and re-toasts the barrels, bringing out the exotic spices within the European oak rather than simply the residue of the sweet wine. 
  • WHAT: Lagavulin was officially founded in 1816, but there's evidence that distillation was happening on site as far back as the mid-1700s. Located on the island of Islay, it's part of the Johnnie Walker empire, but these days—given the tremendous popularity of the brand—much of the single malt is held back for individual releases rather than blending. Along with Macallan, Glenlivet, and Glenfiddich, it's one of the most iconic distilleries in the world of Scotch whisky.

I ordered $454. worth of liquor yesterday. On 7/23 I was welcomed for my previous order and given code 200FFM1 to use on my next order. That was yesterday. When I tried to enter this code I was told that it was invalid. If you are not going to honor your discounts why bother offering them?

I haven't had Lagavulin 16 for awhile - smoother than I remember it, very well balanced, if a little tamer than expected. I suspect an evolving palate is the culprit. Service from Mission was great.
