Looking for a high-end Chianti? Meet Rosso Di Montalcino.
A lot of customers come in asking for “high-end Chianti.” While there are certainly some prestigious Chiantis, that’s not necessarily where the Sangiovese grape ends its journey. One of the pinnacle expressions of Sangiovese is Brunello di Montalcino, which you may have heard of.
Rosso di Montalcino can be thought of as “baby Brunello”—often coming from the same vineyards and producers, but without the extended aging required for Brunello, which must age at least five years before release, including two years in oak.
Composition-wise, you’ll experience some of the familiarity of Chianti: lighter to medium body, freshness, tart cherry, and strawberry. You may also notice a deeper nose, a bit of earthiness, and a touch of spice, giving the impression of a more complex and structured wine.
