High West is Utah’s first distillery, born in 1879. High West Double Rye! combines a young, spicy 2-year-old rye whiskey with a smooth 16-year-old for a spirited flavor with a caramel sweetness and woody vanilla richness to calm the "bite." This fine 92-proof whiskey blends straight ryes aged from 2 to 16 years in charred white oak barrels. The flavor features rye spices up front, then menthol, mint, eucalyptus, and herbal tea with wildflower honey underneath, gradually sweetening through the finish. Ideal for a Manhattan, High West whiskey has a balanced body that is an ideal addition to countless cocktail recipes.

Balanced but boring

High west says this is a spicy rye. It isn't. Woodinville or old forester rye beat this in this range. If yoy dont like ryes, though, you will like this. I think they tried to make a rye that tastes like bourbon. Not worth the hype. Pretty bottle though. Mission is the best. I am not knocking mission. Love em.

High in the West

...sorry, couldn't resist! This is a good, solid rye whiskey. Like all of the High West product line, it goes for a bold flavor profile, and mostly succeeds. It's a little sweeter than many ryes, but not in a bad way. It has become a go-to, especially for the price. It's good as a standalone on-the-rocks or for a nice old fashioned or rye sour. If you like your rye to be more balanced, this may come off as too sweet, even cloying, but anyone who enjoys a good Irish whiskey will appreciate this rye.
