I brought a bottle of this to gathering of friends who thought they liked scotch, but had never heard of Bunnahabhain, and weren't really versed in the flavors that can be found in Islay bottles. If you want to show off your pallet as well, I highly suggest this bottle. There is definitely peat on the pallet, but it doesn't feel like you're sucking on a campfire like you would with a laphroaig. There's also not enough sherry notes to make your McCallan fans think they're drinking something so refined. What this has going for it, is a rich, oily texture, that sits on the tongue, and coats the mouth with complex chocolates and melons that are rich and delicious. You can taste the salty islay coastal air, and its peat smoke makes for a great lasting finish, that almost begs the tongue to apply more immediately after you've swallowed. Everything in this bottle is brought together by that chocolate hint, which rides from start to finish. This is one solid bottle of scotch worth trying.
