International Zinfandel Day

"If you love the show "Finding Your Roots", read the full history about discovering the origins of Zinfandel. The short version is that historians have traced Zinfandel’s roots in the United States back to the 1820s, but it wasn't until 2001 that researchers confirmed with DNA fingerprinting that “Crljenak Kaštelanski” of Croatia shares the same DNA structure as California Zinfandel. It took almost 200 years to find the origins of this grape. That's a long time! One of the best stories with the Zinfandel grape involves the Prisoner Wine brand. When Orin Swift winemaker Dave Phinney sold the brand back in 2010, he made a gentleman's agreement that he would not make wine with Zinfandel for at least 8 years. True to his word, he did not. As soon as time was up, he introduced to the world "8 Years in the Desert" a predominantly Zinfandel based wine blend. That's not so long when considering the history.Luckily, folks don't have to wait nearly that long to enjoy great wines made from Zinfandel! It is the third most crushed grape in the USA. Grab yourself a bottle and see why people became obsessed with this grape."

Cline Eight Spur Zinfandel 2021 750ml

$24.99

"Dry Creek Valley is one of the oldest growing areas in California. By the late 1880s, the region had more than 800 acres of vineyards, the majority planted to Zinfandel. These traditionally planted Zinfandel blocks are distinctive. Short stout vines stand on their own with no trellis, free-standing, low to the ground and spur-pruned to eight canes to form well-spaced branches. Original farmers called this vine pruning technique “Eight Spur". This wine displays loads of blueberry and strawberry flavors, with hints of cinnamon, tobacco leaf, and vanilla. Medium-full bodied with mouthwatering acidity, and fine-grained tannins, the finish is opulent and long."
