The 2023 vintage began three to four weeks later than the previous 10-year average due to heavy rainfall and cold temperatures that lasted into April and May. The winter leading into the growing season saw above average rainfall at nearly 40 inches in most areas around Napa Valley. This led to some anxiety around a late harvest and potential for early rains, but we saw a long mild summer that lasted long into October. In the end, we had amazing flavor development from this longer hang time, as well as beautiful color and phenolics—the perfect building blocks to craft balanced and delicious wine
Notes of purple fruit, dark cherry, blueberry, black berry, black currant, dark chocolate, warm dark spice, and mocha, with hints of dried herbs and sweet pipe tobacco. Full bodied, with elegantly melted tannins.
