Mars Tsunuki Distillery sits in remote Kagoshima in southern Kyushu, where the hot climate drives a significant angel’s share and accelerates maturation — the result is a heavier, more concentrated house style than you’d find further north. This is the seventh annual release of their namesake single malt, drawn from 100% malted barley at an average 5 ppm peat, aged 4 to 9 years across ex-bourbon and a combination of ex-sherry casks. Non-chill filtered, no added coloring, bottled at 49% ABV.
A soft whisper of peat on the nose gives way to orange marmalade and tea cake. The palate brings poached pears alongside darker notes of chocolate-covered almonds, with a slightly bittersweet finish.
