If there’s one thing that we can say about Maker’s Mark Bourbon, it’s that the whiskies almost always deliver. There may not be much variation between flavor profiles, but that’s absolutely fine with us. Some things shouldn’t be trifled with, and the sweet, creamy character of Maker’s Mark Bourbon is one of them.

That being said, we do love a little additional oak and a higher ABV. Maker’s Mark new 2024 release of its wood finishing series—the Heart Release—dials up that classic flavor profile we love without changing its fundamental nature.

Our allocation features the addition of 10 toasted French Oak staves with an ABV of 55.85% and a heady nose of caramel, chocolate, and maple. The palate features all of the creamy vanilla one expects from the wheated Maker’s Mark recipe, but it’s as if it were dipped in dark chocolate. The finish is bold and lasting as the 111.7 proof lights up the back of your tongue like the Delorean time machine from Back to the Future.
