It was great shopping online at Mission Wine—when I need a fix for my hard to find things, I’m definitely coming back here again!
This is a sherry forward bottle, and in every way, is not meant for those that prefer their peat. There is no hint of any smoke in this bottle, and definitely sits on the sweeter side of the pallet. With a perfect golden hue color, the nose is all flowers and sherry when you open it the first time, and the pallet is there to take you to a summer dream. It's got a nice finishing complexity, that keeps it from being totally overpoweringly sweet, and makes you think they've underpriced this blend. There are definite toffee and raisin flavors initially, with the spices kicking in just at the very end of the finish, which allow this to be versatile enough for cocktails, while just flavorful enough to sip neat. It is one of my favorite lower cost scotch bottles, and makes a great old fashioned with its sherry influences front and center. Glenmorangie are just as refined as McCallan, but without the price tag. This bottle compares favorably with McCallan's double cask 12 years. If you are looking for peat, though, you definitely will want to look elsewhere.
Best pandemic scotch I've ever had.
