This expression made me totally re-think what a Rye should be. Tobacco leaf and fig permeates this whisky -- on the nose and the palate -- that is combined with a 'meaty' or Umami quality that really establishes this as a completely unique offering. If Mortlach made a rye this is what it would taste like.
It’s very citrus forward, delicious rye. I’d love to give it four stars but a bit pricey for what it is in my opinion.
If you’ve been wanting to try Leopold Bros’ Three Chamber Rye, you can get a taste of it here in this blend along with Dickel’s column still rye. This blend is simply delicious and at a much more friendly price point than the standalone bottling of the Leopold Bros’ Three Chamber Rye. But that bottle is totally worth having in your bar if you can do it. Get them both! ;)
Great rye, very very very smooth, nice mouthfeel. A little lacking on spice and some of the rye complexity but fun to drink. Honey, floral, and light fruit notes.
Stopped by the Pasadena location to get the Dickel Leopold collab that they’d emailed about that day. Sadly, I was told they sold out. Come to find it was still available online and shipped overnight to my local FedEx! Score!
