The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 year old single malt whisky has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum.
To create the ideal finish Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums.
When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches.
The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.

very smooth scotch, a personal favorite
If you read reviews online for this bottle, people are very high on it. I didn't find it to be as enjoyable as the lower priced 12 year double wood, and was rather disappointed in the overall flavor profile. I found the bottle to have more of an alcohol hint to the nose, which may be a byproduct of the aging in Rum barrels to finish. It wasn't nearly as interesting as Balvenie's other offerings to my pallet, and I found the hype around how it's aged to be overblown. Definitely not worth the extra money. I would instead suggest the 12 year double wood, as that may become a staple in your bar, where this is a bit more of a once in a while, to show off to people who may not have heard of Rum Barrel aging types.
