The skill of a whisky maker, combined with the skill of a wine maker, has led to the creation of ABERFELDY 21 Years Old, finished in red wine casks from the esteemed Argentinian winery, Finca Ambrosia. Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod and Wine Maker, Matias Macias have come together to share their skill and expertise to select former Malbec French Oak casks to finish ABERFELDY 21 Year Old. From the Scottish Highlands, to the foothills of the mighty Andes, this bottling reveals the flavor nuances of when a whisky from ABERFELDY, in the Heart of Scotland, meets a red wine from the Heart of Argentina’s Uco Valley.
Matured for over two decades in a combination of re-fill barrels and hogsheads, the whisky was then finished for a period of around 8 months in Malbec French Oak wine casks, sourced from Finca Ambrosia Single Estate winery, in Argentina..
Tasting Notes: The aroma of this delicate, yet complex Finca Ambrosia cask finish opens with intriguing notes of sweet, toasted cereal, and hints of herbal sage and rosemary. Developing with ripe strawberries, drizzled in Highland Honey and delicately sharpened with notes of blackcurrant. Melting to floral notes of rose and violet, and a background hint of cinnamon spice. Settling on the palate the fruit sings and rejoices, soothing to a creamy vanilla and endlessly smooth finish.
The cask influence gives classic Malbec notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry. Nuanced flavors of cocoa powder, violet flowers, leather, and sweet tobacco spice.
