Château de Pellehaut is located in the small village Montréal-du-Gers, and represents one the great values in Armagnac, if not all of brandy. Purchased by Gaston Béraut shortly after the Second World War, he has slowly developed one of the largest single properties in the region. Béraut's sons Mathieu and Martin take care of the winemaking and the maturation of the brandies in barrel. As part of the Tenereze region of Armagnac, the soil around Pellehaut contains more chalk and limestone than in the Bas-Armagnac, and the spirits generally take longer to develop, beginning to really show complexity after 15+ years in wood. The 1988 is made from 100% Ugni Blanc and was bottled in 2020 at 50% ABV with a 32 year old age statement. Imagine drinking an ancient Cognac, aged for more than 30 years in oak, but bottled at full proof and with more new oak influence. That's what the 1988 Pellehaut offers for the bargain price of $109.99, with loads of power and gobs of richness.

Simple, Perfect, Great Selection

Based on recommendations from David at Mission, we bought the 1988 & 1983 Pellehaut Armagnac. My only regret is I didn't buy more! The 1988 is nice, but the 1983 is a wonderful sip. Grab yourself a few bottles. You will not be disappointed.

Interesting cross between bourbon and cognac.
