Château de Pellehaut is located in the small village Montréal-du-Gers, and represents one the great values in Armagnac, if not all of brandy. Purchased by Gaston Béraut shortly after the Second World War, he has slowly developed one of the largest single properties in the region. Béraut's sons Mathieu and Martin take care of the winemaking and the maturation of the brandies in barrel. As part of the Tenereze region of Armagnac, the soil around Pellehaut contains more chalk and limestone than in the Bas-Armagnac, and the spirits generally take longer to develop, beginning to really show complexity after 15+ years in wood. The 1983 is made from 100% Ugni Blanc and was bottled in 2020 at 47% ABV with a 37 year old age statement. Being that it's made from the same grape as Cognac, the 83 Pellehaut is very much like an older Cognac, aged in new oak, and bottled at full proof. There's a lot of rum raisin on the palate, completely coated in burnt oak and bold spices.

Great deal!

Mission has been offering some amazing prices on their yaks and this one is no exception. I was fortunate to try last year's release of this vintage so was excited to see it being offered again... at an excellent price as well!
