Bere Barley is a six-row heritage variety that has long since been forgotten from the modern world of standardised whisky making. Its revival into present day has taken effort and resilience from an entire network of millers, growers and agronomists.

Our Bere project is dedicated to those like-minded souls, who have preserved a legacy and found modern applications in flavourful food and drinks, whatever the odds. This Bruichladdich Bere Barley was distilled in 2010 from a 2009 harvest, brought home by Peter, John, Magnus, Sydney and Duncan on the Orkney Islands.

Fast shipping, no problems

I've ordered from Mission a few times before, and they are reliable and dependable. Everything ships promptly, and the orders are accurate.

Prompt shipping, not great communication

The order was received undamaged and in a relatively timely fashion. However, the two bottles of whisky I ordered came without their respective tins/boxes: only the bottles arrived. I wondered if this was just part of Mission's policy so I tried to reach out but never got a response. 3/5 since the order came but knocking some stars off for lack of communication.

Barley Flavor from Islay

This scotch is fully unique in it's flavor profile. While a bit higher priced than your average scotch, the unique heavy barley flavor, gives you a nuttiness not found many other places. It's so barley forward, that you almost miss all the subtle hints going on in this dram. The nose is really light, and not where this shines, as it's more the flavor than the smell that lets you know this was crafted by master distillers, who knew how to make the ingredients shine through. It's a wonderful bottle, and so unique that it's worth having on hand to show off to your friends who want something distinct in their glasses. Not one I would drink daily, but definitely a great change of pace from the peat heavy bottles, or even the sherry forward sweeter flavors. It sits perfectly in the middle, with enough body to make it a great splash on the tongue.
