  • WHY: Arran is real small production whisky made by one of Scotland's first new wave independents. Concentrated with vanilla, stone fruit, and baking spices, the use of Sauternes casks adds honeyed fruit and a suppleness from the rich dessert wine.
  • HOW: Using a combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks for maturation, the whisky is classically Highland in style, yet located on an island far south of the Scottish region. The Sauternes cask adds more sweet wine influence and, bottled at 100 proof, a bit more punch than the standard expressions.
  • WHAT: Arran was founded in 1993 on the Isle of Arran and launched its first single malt in 2005. It produces just over a million liters of whisky per year (about 8% of what Glenfiddich makes annually), and has a small, yet enthusiastic fanbase of loyal drinkers that actively promote the brand within small circles around the globe.
