For the last two hundred years in the Rhone Valley and Roussillon, Maison M. Chapoutier has been producing some of the greatest wines. They nurture their vineyards, and the single vineyards selected are cultivated either organically or biodynamically with the greatest respect for natural balance of the terroir. The words ‘patience’ and ‘daring’ sum up all that this winemaking art demands: patience in relation to nature which presides; daring for the winemaker, who observes, chooses and assists. Speaking of assists, each of their wine labels have Braille text added so that people who were blind or partially sighted may have a better chance of finding wine on their own. These were some of the first wine labels to have Braille added to them. There’s a long story to it, but you must come to the wine bar to hear it. Please join us in South Glendale as we try these great wines that like to take extra steps in their winemaking process for everyone to enjoy.
2016 Belleruche Cotes du Rhone Blanc
Bright golden yellow hue with an intense and expressive nose full of apricot, fennel and floral scents. The wine’s roundness is a perfect match for its freshness and the finish reveals subtle notes of aniseed.
2015 Belleruche Cotes du Rhone Rouge
Deep garnet red. Intense and fruity nose with blackcurrant and raspberry complemented by notes of white pepper. This wine is juicy, powerful and fruity on the palate with lovely roasted notes. There are silky and delicate tannins.
2015 Bila-Haut Cotes du Roussillon Blanc
The wine exhibits citrus aromas with smoky notes. Fresh and very aromatic attach. The palate is round with a great acidity. A lot of freshness on the finish mixed with salty notes, which express the minerality of the wine.
2016 Bila-Haut Cotes du Roussillon Villages Rouge
Aromas of black cherry. This wine is fleshy, well-structured with the warm and savage of soils of the Roussillon area.
2012 Bila-Hault Occultum Lapidem Cotes du Roussillon
94 PTS - ROBERT PARKER - "The 2012 Cotes du Rousillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem offers dark, mineral-laced aromas and flavors of smoked earth, licorice, wild herbs and blackcurrants to go with a firm, structured and age-worthy profile on the palate. Comprised of mostly Syrah, from schist and gneiss soils, and aged in tank and demi-muid, this superb 2012 has solid mid-palate depth, ample tannin and a beautifully focused finish. It's a superb value that will be even better in another year or so, and have 12-15 years of ultimate longevity." -JD (4/14)
2012 Domaine de Bila-Haut r.i.
Complex and intense aromas with notes of ink, raspberry and cistus flower. Delicate on entry, growing steadily denser, without aggressiveness, lovely tight tannins. Firm, long lingering finish; superb violet and white pepper olfactory after-taste. With a combination of strength and delicacy, this wine gives us a true expression of its great granite terroir.
